Cabin Fever? Build a Winter Escape Close to Home!

The award-winning "urban cabin," pictured here, is a featured project on the Minneapolis Lake and Cabin Show website this month. We designed the "cabin" as a semi-detached, three-season space only steps away from our client's main house - not too far, but just far enough to escape life's daily noise for a few hours.

When designing this cozy cabin, we incorporated architectural and finish elements consistent with a National Park Lodge: rustic rough-hewn cedar posts, an 18-foot Fond-du-lace stone fireplace, wall-mounted historic-looking mica lamps, and stacked stone walls. The room's footprint was designed to accomodate hand-made willow-furniture purchased locally at the Uptown Art Fair several summers ago. And, as always, function was never far behind. DiGiacomo Homes Honored With 2011 COTY Awards

DiGiacomo Homes & Renovation was honored in November 2011 with two Contractor of the Year (COTY) awards: one in the "Best Kitchen $60K-$75K" category and one in the "Best Historical Renovation" category. COTY awards are issued by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). Awards are designed to recognize excellence in aesthetics, functionality, superior craftsmanship, innovative use of construction materials and techniques, and the meeting of client needs. Minnesota award entries are judged by a team of WI industry professionals including architects, interior designers, and other remodelers. DiGiacomo Homes & Renovation has been awarded 11 COTY awards over the past five years including: "Best Sustainable Remodel," "Best Exterior," "Best Whole House Remodel," "Best Kitchen," and "Best in Show."

Buon Appetito! Wood-Burning Pizza Garden

This charming, trellis-covered pizza patio was created for clients who love to entertain, cook, and garden. They had originally envisioned the space as a patio with fire pit but after returning home from a trip to Italy, decided on a wood-burning pizza oven instead. "We want the real thing" they told us. And so we built a wood-buring pizza oven detailed with the hand-carved face "keystone" picked up by our clients during their travels.
The pizza patio was planned as one of several "destinations" along new garden paths that traversed our clients' one acre of edible landscaping. Stone benches and a semi-circle trellis were designed to allow simultaneous cooking and eating outdoors.
And the pizza? Some of the best we've ever tasted!! Try baking your own with our client's favorite dough recipe from Williams Sonoma. Top with your favorite, fresh ingredients! Buon Appetito!

Green Dream Home Welcomes Many!

More than 2,000 visitors toured our Green Dream Home at 237 Janalyn Circle in Golden Valley this spring - bringing in $10,000 for the Builders Outreach Foundation. Some came to learn about solar electric generation and other energy efficient features. Others came for the Apple iPhone smart technology and were wowed by the little things – like a built-in docking station for every family member’s iPhone, iPod, and iPad. And still others came simply to soak in the clean, fresh aesthetics. Feedback was tremendous and we enjoyed our conversations with everyone – thank you for making this event a success!
